2024 Service Opportunities

Volunteer for in-person service opportunities we’ve coordinated with non-profit organizations that serve the poor and vulnerable in Northeast Ohio. Volunteer shirts will be provided to you. After signing up, a volunteer coordinator will be in touch to ensure you have everything you need for the Day of Service!

Sign ups open Friday Aug. 23 at 10:00 a.m.!

This year, we'll be limiting the number of volunteer sign-up slots to 500. To ensure you’re able to sign up for your desired project, we recommend creating your account in advance and adding any family members who will be volunteering with you! Visit serve.mightyvincent.org to get started.

  • Haven of Rest – making beds, etc

    • Who: 10 volunteers ages 6 and up. Each child to attend with an adult

    • What: Making beds, folding PJ's and towels and putting them in tubs. Sorting clothing, coloring cards of encouragement.

    • When: Friday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

    • Where: 175 E Market St Akron OH 44308

    Haven of Rest – yard work and cards

    • Who: 12 volunteers ages 10 and up. Each child to attend with an adult

    • What: Yard work weather permitting, coloring cards of encouragement, sorting clothing, cleaning projects.

    • When: Friday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

    • Where: 175 E Market St Akron OH 44308

    Haven of Rest – setup and serve lunch

    • Who: 8 volunteers ages 6 and up. Each child to attend with an adult.

    • What: Serve lunch in shelter. Setting up for the meal (putting down trays, napkins, salt and pepper, beverages, etc.), serving the meal and clean up after meal.

    • When: Friday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

    • Where: 175 E Market St Akron OH 44308

    Cornerstone of Hope – indoor and outdoor upkeep

    • Who: 15 volunteers ages 18 and up.

    • What: Indoor cleaning and organizing, outdoor light gardening, and making chili for a large group meal.

    • When: Friday, Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

  • Empower Sports – assist with 5K fundraiser

    • Who: 25 volunteers ages 8 and up. Under 16 must attend with an adult.

    • What: Assist with participant check in, course direction, water and food stations for the 5K fundraiser at Cleveland Zoo.  Volunteers may remain at the Zoo after the event. 

    • When: Saturday, Sept. 21 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

    CORE Furniture Bank – folding linens and moving furniture

    • Who: 4 volunteers ages 16 and up.

    • What: Folding linens (2-3 people) and moving furniture (2-3 people)

    • When: Saturday, Sept. 21 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

    City Mission Laura’s Home – campus improvements indoor and outdoor

    • Who: 15 volunteers ages 11 and up. Under 16 must attend with an adult.

    • What: Outdoor landscaping cleanup and inside projects including painting or cleaning.

    • When: Saturday, Sept 21 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

    Celine’s Nest – Serve Saturday home cleaning

    • Who: 15 volunteers ages 11 and up. Under 16 must attend with an adult.

    • What: Work with residents to do deep cleaning of the home including common areas.

    • When: Saturday, Sept 21 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

    • Where: Lakewood OH (address shared with volunteers)

    Boys Hope Girls Hope of Northeastern Ohio – meal and snack preparation

    • Who: 10 volunteers ages 7 and up.  Children must attend with an adult.

    • What: Prepare meals and package snacks for student scholars.

    • When: Saturday, Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

    Boys Hope Girls Hope of Northeastern Ohio – campus improvements

    • Who: 10 volunteers ages 7 and up.  Children must attend with an adult.

    • What: Exterior landscaping and interior upkeep projects.

    Cleveland Kids Book Bank – sorting and boxing books

    • Who: 8 volunteers ages 13 and up.  13-15 must attend with an adult.

    • What: Sorting, stickering and boxing hundreds of children's books inside our warehouse for distribution to kids in NEO

    • When: Friday, Sept. 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

    • Where: 3635 Perkins Ave Cleveland OH 44114

    Down Syndrome Association of NEO – assist with education programs

    • Who: 5 volunteers ages 13 and up. 13-15 must attend with an adult

    • What: Assist with preparing for and helping with education programs including making copies and packets and sanitizing materials..

    • When: Saturday, Sept. 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

    Refuge of Hope – organize donations

    • Who: 10 volunteers ages 11 and up. 11-15 must attend with an adult

    • What: Working in Community Care Center to sort and organize donations.

    Kelly’s Grief Center

    • Who: 15 volunteers ages 8 and up. Under 16 must attend with an adult.

    • What: Outdoor bed clean up, planning, and groundskeeping at the new location for the organization.

    First Glance – play room organizing and cleaning

    • Who: 12 volunteers ages 9 and up.  Children must attend with an adult.

    • What: Organize and clean kids toy room and light kitchen organizing.

    • When: Saturday, Sept. 21 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

    Homeless Charity and Village – organizing donations

    • Who: 15 volunteers ages 12 and up.  12-15 must attend with an adult.

    • What: Organizing donations, putting together emergency supply kits, bagging toiletry items

    • When: Saturday, Sept. 21 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

    City Mission – deliver lunches

    • Who: 1 volunteer age 16 and up.

    • What: Deliver lunches prepared at St. Mary on Saturday to Crossroads Mens’ Crisis Center

    • When: Saturday, Sept. 21 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

    • Where: 5310 Carnegie Ave Cleveland OH 44103 

    ACCESS Shelters – shop, make, and serve dinner

    • Who: 8 volunteers ages 7 and up.  Under 16 must attend with an adult.

    • What: Prepare and serve a meal at the shelter. Volunteers will plan and shop for meal ingredients for 30 shelter residents. Meal may be cooked in advance (and arrive at 5 p.m. to setup and serve to residents at 5:45). Only 8 people may be present to serve food but more people can help to prepare.

    • When: Saturday, Sept. 21 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

  • City Mission – deliver bagged lunches

    • Who: 1 volunteer age 16 and up.

    • What: Deliver lunches prepared at St. Mary on Saturday to Laura’s Home

    Fostering Hope – weed therapeutic garden

    • Who: 15 volunteers ages 5 and up.  5-15 must attend with an adult.

    • What: Weed, water, and maintain one of the therapeutic gardens used with children in foster care. 

    • When: Sunday, Sept. 22 from 10 a.m.to 12 p.m.

    Peter Maurin Center – serve lunch

    • Who: 6 volunteers ages 13 and up.  Under 16 must attend with an adult.

    • What: Help serve lunch at the Peter Maurin Center.  If desired, you can also sign up to provide part of the meal.

    • When: Sunday, Sept. 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    • Who: 10 volunteers. All ages can help prepare food.  Each volunteer will be responsible for food for approx. 6 meals.

    • What: Shop for and prepare a hot dinner to serve.  This work will be overseen by a project coordinator to determine dinner menu and divide up work.  This can be done on your own time or as a group prior to the time food must be taken to St. Herman.

    • When: Sunday, Sept. 22 - 4 p.m. completion time of meals.

    • Where: At your own home (or another volunteer home)

    St. Herman House – serve hot dinner

    • Who: 6 volunteers ages 12 and up. 12-15 must attend with an adult

    • What: Serve hot dinner (prepared by other volunteers) at the St. Herman House.

    • When: Sunday, Sept. 22 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

    Zelie's Home – shop, make, and deliver dinner

    • Who: 5 volunteers any age. 

    • What: Prepare and serve dinner. Volunteers will plan and shop for meal ingredients for 15 shelter residents. Meal to be cooked in advance and delivered.

    • When: Sunday, Sept. 22 any time.  Drop off dinner by 5 p.m.

  • Akron Canton Regional Foodbank – food distribution and organizing

    • Who: 20 volunteers ages 18 and up

    • What: Work in food pantry as well as sort and organize food for distribution.

    • When: Friday, Sept. 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

    Grace House Akron – outdoor garden space improvements

    • Who: 10 volunteers ages 10 and up. Each child to attend with an adult.

    • What: Outdoor garden space cleanup and blub and bush planting.

    Haven of Portage County – preparing and serving dinner

    • Who: 10 volunteers ages 5 and up.  Children must attend with an adult

    • What: Plan, shop, prepare, and serve dinner for overnight residents and possibly play games after dinner.  Later arrival (4:15) if group prepares food at home and brings to shelter.

    • When: Friday, Sept. 27 from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

  • Friends of the Poor Walk – setup/cleanup and collect donations

    • Who: 8 volunteers ages 6 and up.  Each child to attend with an adult

    • What: Help with set up/tear down of signs for the walk and help to keep the coffee/ice cream area tidy.  Collect donations at Oak Grove and Wood Hollow Parks

    Ozanam Center @ Seton Catholic School – box and organize donations

    • Who: 12 volunteers ages 5 and up. Each child to attend with an adult

    • What: Sort and package donations of children's shoes and toys for Ozanam Center.

    • When: Saturday, Sept. 28 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
